The short version

What you write is yours. We don't sell it, and we never use it for advertising.
Nothing you capture is shared with other people unless you choose to share it.
Your entries may be processed by Google Cloud's Vertex AI so the app can understand them. We do not use your content to train models or for advertising.
You can export everything, or delete everything, whenever you want.

What AI and research lookup see

To turn what you say into something structured — a plan, a checklist, a transcript, the text inside a photo — your content is sent to Google Cloud's Vertex AI. This is what makes capture work, and it is not optional for those features.

If you choose a research lookup, your question and the material needed to answer it — such as search results, links and selected excerpts — are processed to gather current information and turn it into a useful record. You decide whether to keep the resulting jot, plan, checklist or other record in your journal.

Three things are true about that processing, and we think all three matter:

It is not used to train models. Google's terms state they will not use your data to train or fine-tune any AI model without your prior permission or instruction. We have not given it.
We do not use it as a separate data store. We keep the records you choose to save in your account. Google and any search service used for a lookup may temporarily process or log requests to run, secure and abuse-protect their services.
Some of it happens on your phone. Basic understanding of what you typed runs on-device, which is why capture still works without a connection.

One caveat we would rather state than bury: service providers may log requests to run, secure and detect abuse of their services. That is part of their service operation, not a way for us to advertise to you.

What we store, and how

Your content is stored in Google Firebase, encrypted in transit and at rest. To be clear about what that does and does not mean: it is not end-to-end encrypted. If it were, the app could not read the text inside your photos, transcribe your voice notes, or search them by meaning — those features require the content to be readable by the service.

Text extracted for search — transcripts, text found in images, summaries and other searchable context — is indexed so you can find things later. That index is scoped to your account.

What we collect

Your email address, and a name if you give one, to create your account and to reply to you.
The content you create: jots, media, plans, links, checklists, journeys, sequences, decks and tags, plus the metadata that makes them useful — for example dates, time zones, links and organisation.
Anonymous usage data about how the app performs — crashes, errors, timings.
Device type and OS version, so we can fix things that only break on some devices.

We do not buy data about you, and we do not build advertising profiles.

Website forms and security

When you use this website's contact form, we collect the name, email, subject, optional company and message you provide so we can reply. When you join early access, we collect your email address and send a confirmation link; you are not added to the list until you confirm it.

We use Firebase to process these forms and Postmark to deliver their emails. Form submissions are protected by Firebase App Check and reCAPTCHA Enterprise, which process limited technical and request information to prevent abuse. This security processing is necessary for the forms to work safely and is separate from optional website analytics.

Website delivery and operational logs

Firebase Hosting records limited technical request information to deliver, secure and diagnose this website. This can include the page requested, response status and timing, browser information, referring page and IP address. We use it only to keep the site working, investigate errors or abuse, and see aggregate request volume. We do not use these logs to identify people, build profiles, recognise returning visitors or advertise.

We keep these Hosting logs for up to 30 days and restrict access to the people who operate the site. We do not export them to advertising, marketing or customer-data tools. This necessary operational processing is separate from optional website analytics.

Website analytics

If you choose Allow analytics on this website, we use Firebase Analytics to understand which pages are useful and whether the site performs reliably. It records pseudonymous technical and usage data such as pages visited, browser, device type, language and coarse location. We do not send journal content, waitlist details or your name to Analytics, and we do not use Analytics for advertising.

Choosing Keep analytics off means Firebase Analytics is not initialized. Firebase Hosting still processes the limited operational logs described above so it can deliver and protect the website. A small, necessary consent record remembers your analytics choice for up to six months. You can change it at any time.

Email

There are two kinds, and we treat them differently.

Transactional email — confirming your waitlist sign-up, or acknowledging a message you sent us — containsno tracking. No open tracking, and their links are not rewritten or monitored.
Marketing email, which you only receive after confirming your email address, may record whether the message was opened and which links were clicked. We use this to understand which updates are useful, never to build a profile of you. Unsubscribe links are excluded from click tracking.

Every marketing email can be unsubscribed from in one click, and we honour it immediately.

Sharing and collaboration

A Sequence can be shared with other people. Its owner can manage the Sequence and its sharing; an editor can add and edit their own data in it but cannot delete the Sequence or edit someone else's data; a viewer can view the Sequence but cannot change it. The owner can revoke access. Everything you have not shared stays private to you.

What you can do

Export your data.
Delete individual items, or your entire account and everything in it.
Choose who can access a shared Sequence, then revoke that access.
Unsubscribe from marketing email in one click.

Children

Everything Journal is not intended for people under 13.

Using Everything Journal

These terms are between you and Spikey Tech Inc. By using Everything Journal, this website or the early-access list, you agree to these terms and the Privacy Policy. We have tried to keep them short and readable.

Your account

You are responsible for keeping your account secure.
Provide accurate information when you sign up.
You must be at least 13 years old.
Do not share your account credentials or use another person's account without permission.

Acceptable use

Use Everything Journal for lawful purposes.
Respect other people's privacy and intellectual property.
Only upload, share or give access to material that you have the right to use.
Do not attempt to hack, disrupt or abuse the service.
Do not use it to store illegal content.

Your content

You keep all rights to everything you create.
You grant us the limited rights needed to store, process and display your content back to you — nothing more.
You are responsible for keeping your own backups of anything important.
You can export or delete your content at any time.

AI and research lookup

Everything Journal can use AI to structure what you capture and, when you ask for it, gather current information before turning it into a record. AI and research results can be incomplete, inaccurate or out of date. They are not professional advice, and you are responsible for reviewing them before relying on, sharing or acting on them.

Sharing and collaboration

A Sequence can be shared with other people. Its owner controls the Sequence and its sharing; editors can add and edit their own data; and viewers can only view it. If you share a Sequence, you are responsible for choosing collaborators carefully and for having permission to share the material they can access.

Early access and feedback

Everything Journal is pre-launch. Joining the early-access list does not guarantee an invitation, a release date, a particular feature or continued access. If you send feedback, you give us permission to use it to improve the product without compensation or an obligation to use it.

Pricing

Everything Journal is free to start. Writing, planning and organising are not rationed; media and AI are metered, and a subscription removes those limits. Prices, term, renewal and cancellation information are shown in the app before you approve a purchase. Billing, cancellation and refunds are handled through the Apple App Store and subject to the terms shown at purchase and applicable law.

Suspension or termination

We may suspend or end access when we reasonably believe these terms have been breached, the service is being abused, or doing so is needed to protect people or the service. Where reasonable, we will explain why and give you a chance to resolve the issue.

Changes to the service

We will update the app to add features, fix problems and improve performance, and we will tell you about significant changes. We may modify or discontinue features.

Liability and warranties

To the extent permitted by applicable law, Everything Journal is provided “as is”. We work hard to make it reliable, but we cannot guarantee uninterrupted access, and we are not liable for lost data or service interruptions. Keep your own backups of anything you cannot afford to lose.
